Copley High School Athletic Hall of Fame Names Class of 2019 Inductees
COPLEY, OHIO – (Aug. 8, 2019) – Copley High School is pleased to announce its newest inductees into the Copley High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The Class of 2019 will be inducted at a ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019.
The 2019 Copley High School Athletic Hall of Fame includes: Leo Saniuk, Class of 2004, Wrestling and Football; Ken Lange, Class of 1965, Football and Track & Field; Jared Ellerson, Class of 2001, Football and Track & Field; Greg Salem, Class of 1979, Golf, Basketball and Baseball; Allison Sholley, Class of 2007, Golf and Basketball; Kate (Kusnyer) Swango, Class of 1994, Soccer, Basketball and Track & Field; Jeff Wise, Class of 1972, Cross Country and Track & Field; and Ashley Pickering, Class of 2006, Gymnastics.
In addition, the Hall of Fame is inducting Carl Watson and Kenneth Keck as Meritorious Service Award Winners. Carl Watson, Class of 1954, is being recognized for 30+ years as a volunteer and supporter of the Copley Athletic Program. Kenneth Keck, a coach from 1928-1935, is being recognized as Copley High School’s first football coach and former athletic director. He is being inducted posthumously.
“We are thrilled to honor all of these amazing athletes who excelled while at Copley High School and are proud of the people they are today,” said Superintendent Brian Poe. “We are thankful for our Meritorious Service Award Winners, Carl Watson and Kenneth Keck. Carl is an incredible supporter of our school’s athletics programs, and Kenneth gave much of his time, effort and passion to Copley High School.”
The Copley High School Athletic Hall of Fame will celebrate the Class of 2019 during the weekend of Dec. 20 and 21. On Dec. 20, the inductees will be recognized during half-time of the boys basketball game against Revere. The Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and Ceremony will be on Saturday evening at St. George Antiochian Church in Fairlawn. Tickets for the dinner and induction ceremony are $35 per person and will be available through the high school athletic department.
The Copley High School Athletic Hall of Fame was started in 2008 through the generous support of former Fairlawn mayor and Copley graduate from the Class of 1974, Pete Kostoff. Additionally, former Copley Athletic Director Larry Banner and former Copley teacher/coach Keith Walker were instrumental to starting the Hall of Fame, which currently has 108 members.
